Unusually High Europium Filling in Skutterudite with Group 9 Transition Metals: Eu(Rh0.93Co0.07)4P12

The novel skutterudite compound Eu(Rh0.93Co0.07)4P12 was synthesized using the Sn flux and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, electron-probe microanalysis, and magnetization measurements. These analysis confirmed that the P12 cages are fully occupied by Eu (x = 1.0), in stark contrast to other skutterudite compounds containing Group 9 elements (Co, Rh, and Ir), where the filling fraction x is typically low.
